A Letter from Our Founder

Grateful for the Community That Surrounds Our Children

By Karla C. Richey

Some of the most meaningful moments in a child’s life are the ones the rest of the world may never notice.

Dear Miami Kids Magazine Family,

Some of the most meaningful moments in a child’s life are the ones the rest of the world may never notice. A new word. The confidence to walk into a classroom. Making a friend. Doing something independently for the first time. To someone else, these may seem like small steps. To a family, they can mean everything.

That thought stayed with me as we created our October–November issue, because so much of what you’ll find in these pages is about recognizing every child’s journey and celebrating progress in all its forms.

This issue includes our annual Special Assistance Guide, proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Miami, along with our Special Assistance Virtual Expo, sponsored by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Inclusion is part of Miami Kids Magazine throughout the year, but each fall we have the opportunity to bring even greater attention to the resources, professionals, and organizations helping children with different needs and their families.

That same message comes to life in our cover story with longtime partner A1A Behavioral Health. Through Miami Kids Magazine, I have learned that progress looks different for every child. Sometimes it is a milestone everyone can see; other times, it is one small step that changes everything. With the right support and encouragement, those small steps can take a child very far.

Inside, you’ll also find our Schools Guide, family travel inspiration from Sonesta Maho Beach Resort in St. Maarten, and a celebration of Miami Fine Arts Academy’s new Coral Gables location.

And as Thanksgiving approaches, there is one more thing I want these pages to express: gratitude. To the families who read us, attend our events, and have grown with us; to the doctors, educators, therapists, schools, nonprofits, organizations, and partners who share their knowledge with our community—thank you.

After ten years of Miami Kids Magazine, I remain incredibly grateful that we get to tell these stories, connect families with meaningful resources, and continue building a publication where every child and every family has a place.

Wishing you and your family a beautiful fall season and a very Happy Thanksgiving.

With love and gratitude,
