This nonprofit center offers a wide range of programs, including licensed home health care, medical daycare, developmental preschools for special needs and typical children, in-home and facility-based respite care, and more. Parent to Parent
Parent to Parent of Miami’s Community Parent Resource Center provides peer support and advocacy to families of people with disabilities. The assistance and coaching provided empowers families/caregivers to access services that lead to increased advocacy at home, school and community. Each family is assigned an Education and Support Specialist to coach as they face the challenges of parenting children with special needs.

Agency for Persons with Disabilities
The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with organizations to provide services and support for customers with developmental disabilities. A person must live in Florida and have a developmental disability that occurred before the age of 18 to be eligible.

Early Steps provides early intervention services to children ages 0-3 born with a disability or developmental delay. These include Family Support/Training, Health/Nutritional/Vision/Translator Services, Occupational/Physical/Speech/Vision Therapy, Service Coordination, and Third Party Referrals. Evaluation is free, and services are covered by insurance or Part C funds. Once your child is deemed eligible you will receive the Individualized Family Support Plan with authorized services/guidance on what to do next.

South Miami Hospital’s Child Development Center provides evaluations and therapy services to help children achieve their full capabilities in areas of development.

PPEC stands for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care. We provide services for children with disabilities and complex medical conditions from birth through age 21. Our center is licensed by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. PPEC services are covered 100% by Medicaid once prescribed by the child's pediatrician.

Equine-Assisted Therapies of South Florida
In October, the Health Channel’s social media pages will run a campaign focusing on raising awareness about how people, young and old, facing disabilities can succeed and achieve great things. The campaign will consist of first-hand accounts from individuals of all ages who have and continue to struggle with physical challenges but found ways to overcome them. Moreover, it will inform about organizations that can assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their goals.
School of Rock
School of Rock is an ingenious concept that gets kids rocking out and performing on stage. In addition to individual private music instruction on guitar, bass, vocals, piano/keyboards and/or drums, students also jam with their peers in a weekly practice session. Gymboree Play & Music has been fostering creativity and confidence in children ages 0 to 5 years over 40+ years. Designed by experts, our age-appropriate activities help develop the cognitive, physical, and social skills of all children as they play. Our programs are also recognized for their unique approach to parent involvement which encourages participation in and the understanding of each child's development.
iSwim Academy, managed by Coach Nick, is a fun way for children to learn how to swim. iSwim Academy works with children of special needs to make sure every child knows water safety. The classes are divided into two main areas: Private and group classes. Each class is 30 minutes long.

Area Stage Company
ASC’s Inclusion Theatre Project (ITP) is a theatre training program for students with developmental disabilities. It inspires its participants through multi-modal, multi-sensory classes within the musical theatre medium and assists them by building social-emotional intelligence, cognition, motor skills, and confidence. The program currently serves 360+ students across Miami-Dade and works with local schools to provide on-site training as well.

Sensory Inclusive Performances
These performances are intended to create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. To create a sensory-Inclusive setting, slight adjustments have been made to the production, including reduced sound levels, no flashing or strobe lights, and minimal special effects. An area adjacent to the theater has been designated as a Quiet Room with specially trained volunteers to provide audience support.
