Miami Lighthouse Celebrates the Gift of Vision at Music Under the Stars

On Wednesday, May 8th Miami Lighthouse for the Blind celebrated the 32nd anniversary of our Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program providing over 200,000 comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses to underprivileged schoolchildren throughout the state of Florida at no cost since inception in 1992. The event honored Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres, with recognition of the school districts collaboration with our Florida Heiken Program. “We are elated that the funds raised at this year’s Music Under the Stars will help nearly 1,000 underserved school children receive complimentary eye exams and prescription glasses,” said Virginia Jacko, President & CEO of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. “Through our Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program, over 7,000 Miami-Dade Public School students will benefit from the gift of vision this schoolyear year.”
