Miami Kids Magazine and the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind Provide Free Eye Exams to Students for Back to School

October 1, 2020

On August 22nd, Miami Kids Magazine and the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s subsidiary, The Florida Heiken Children's Vision Program,  provided free eye exams and glasses when prescribed to children in preparation for the new school year. The event took place at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s main campus,

Sharkie our mascot, greeted all the families at their cars, followed by the families having a temperature check by Lighthouse staff. Maintaining social distancing, the children entered the facility and their eyes were dilated to check the health of the eye. The Florida Heiken Program team provided disposable sunglasses to wear for light sensitivity and the parents received the exam results with a copy of the prescription. We also gave them goody bags on their way out and a chance to win gift cards to Walmart thanks to Florida Blue.
